Many of you have followed my blog for some time now, for that, I thank you. Recently, I decided to change my photography name back to my actual name, Debra Nancy Photography. When I began this photography journey, Debra Nancy was the name I chose, mostly because nothing else seemed to fit. A few years ago, I changed my name to Doodlebug Designz, which seemed whimsical at the time, over the long haul, it seemed a bit too whimsical. With that said, this last week a new website launched, you may have noticed my new look, if not please click the link in my Instagram profile or visit me at the link above. This has been in the makings for the last few months. For some time now, I have been wanting to make a change, but change is always a scary road. This year, I felt it was truly time to stop procrastinating and move forward.
During this time, I have also been concentrating on more flower photography, which includes photos on the porch. In April when the weather turned warmer, we opened the porch, allowing for some pretty porch photographs. Some of you may remember, two years ago we sold our house and downsized to a small ranch style home, which we currently live in. The porch has replaced the sunroom in our previous home. Unfortunately, I am not able to photograph during the winter months (maybe I will try this winter though), as I was in my sunroom. I guess, there are pros and cons to everything in life, the pro here is the absolute beauty of being outside and enjoying the beautiful scenery around our home and our porch.
I wanted to share some photos taken in early May on the porch . . .
On Memorial Day we visited Sunset Flower Farm in Belleplain, NJ. Upon our arrival, I for one, was extremely excited, Brian wasn’t terribly excited but happy to be off from work, I think he went to make me happy. Needless to say, we were both blown away by what we saw once we walked through the entrance. The peacefulness, quiet and beauty filled us with amazement. There were acres and acres of peonies, bright pink, light pink, white and yellow. As far as your eye could see, rows and rows of peonies.
After taking many photographs of the flower fields, I purchased a bouquet of 10 peonies. When Linda (the owner) opened that refrigerator, filled with dozens and dozens of peonies, I was breathless. Once home, I was anxious to set up some still life scenes, featuring those beautiful peonies. Unfortunately, the flowers had not opened yet, it would be at least a day before those lace-like petals opened, but once they did, they would be beautiful. Two days after our visit to the flower farm, the peonies were opened and ready for their photography debut.
Here are some of the cut peony photographs. I hope you enjoy their vibrant and beautiful colors as much as I did!
Well, this is officially my first blog with my new-old name. I hope my springtime porch and peony photographs bring you as much joy as they brought me.
Thank you for following along. I will have a link soon for those who previously followed my blog, to sign up for this new blog on my new website. Until next time, with gratitude . . .

A visual storyteller. I use flowers, tea cups, cake plates and various props to tell still life stories. I grew up in the city, but I have lived in the suburbs for over 30 years. Living close to the beach and a local small village has given me the opportunity to tell my story through photographs.
Debra,
Your peonies are gorgeous and the story behind where they came from is great 👍 I love that your husband got into the peonies farm.. David was trying to get me buy Red peonies today. I suggest he could have his own bouquet 💐 😃
Have a wonderful weekend
Ann
