What exactly does “just being me” mean? Sometimes, I’m not even quite sure. I know I see myself one way, I would venture to say others probably see me completely different than I see myself. Most of us are so hard on ourselves, we aren’t thin enough, we aren’t pretty enough, we aren’t smart enough, and the list goes on and on. Accepting me for me, is a work in progress. Most days I like me, then some days, not as much. On certain days I wake that way and on other days I don’t. Do you have days like that? I believe many of us do, we always think the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. I’m here to say it is NOT. People are happy and sad no matter what their financial situation is, no matter how thin or smart they are, everyone has insecurities. Some are just able to hide it better than others.
I have been doing a lot of soul searching lately, and I have discovered I am who I am. I will never be that really thin person who can wear a bikini, but I’m ok with it! I have other qualities that suit me just fine. It’s this acceptance of myself that I have finally come to terms with and it is a good feeling. It’s difficult accepting who you are. We are conditioned to believe things about ourselves, not always good, from the time we are very young. Usually those things stay with us forever, good, but especially bad things always stay with us. It’s how you deal with those things, and how you overcome the bad, that will bring you inner peace.
I am a mom, a wife, a grandma, a photographer, a friend, a sister, a cancer survivor among many other things. I try to treat people as I would like to be treated, with kindness and patience. That doesn’t mean, I always achieve it, but I try my best to be the best person I can be.
I am writing this to say that it’s ok to just be you! There is no one else exactly like you. Share your qualities with others, by sharing who you are, you will brighten not only your day but others as well.
I have been taking a course called “Capturing Your Zip Code” with Carolyn of Sixteen Miles Out. It’s a fabulous course for so many reasons, mainly because of COVID-19 we are all required to stay home. What better time to take notice of where you live, since you are always home. Carolyn is such a sweet and good person, her photography is amazing, so who better than her to teach a course on being home. We are in week one, I hope you will follow along on Instagram to see all of the wonderful photos posted. The hashtag is #capturingyourzipcode, you will be able to see where the participants not only live, but their homes as well.
The photos I’m posting show some of me, where I live and some of what makes my house a home. Some of the items that make my home special to me. I’m sure you have spaces and possessions in your home that reflect you and have meaning to you, just as I do.
Enjoy your time at home, with the grace of God, maybe we can all go back to a somewhat normal existence soon. Until then, please stay well physically and mentally.
Thanks for following along, until next time . . .

A visual storyteller. I use flowers, tea cups, cake plates and various props to tell still life stories. I grew up in the city, but I have lived in the suburbs for over 30 years. Living close to the beach and a local small village has given me the opportunity to tell my story through photographs.
