We have lived in our new house for six weeks. The weather has begun to change and our screened in porch is truly one of the most peaceful places to sit with a cup of coffee in the morning or a glass of wine at the end of a long day. Our house is located on three acres, surrounded by woods. The sound of the leaves blowing gently in the breeze or even raindrops are comforting.
We are still unpacking boxes and desperately trying find a place to put the numerous belongings we brought with us, I have come to realize, that we own too many things. The new house is much smaller than our previous house. We went from 2800 square feet to 1728 square feet, we definitely downsized! This was our intention, to purchase a home we could manage easier, less upkeep as we get older, a home we could retire in and not have to move again. However, trying to fit belongings in a house half the size of what you previously lived in, is a challenge to say the least.
Although we have been here for six weeks, we are just beginning to get settled. Most of our necessary belongings have been unpacked, now it’s the miscellaneous items we need to figure out what to do with. My feeling is, if we haven’t missed it since March 29th when we moved out of our previous home, then we must not really need it. So, we have donated even more items to the lady at the thrift shop.
I am wondering when will this house feel like home though. When we moved to this area seventeen years ago, it took me nearly two years before I actually felt like I belonged here. This time, I know it won’t take quite as long, we are now familiar with the area, have friends and roots. I am confident I’ll come home from work one day soon, and know, this is where I belong. New memories will be made and soon I will feel at home. After all, the walls are not what makes a house a home, it’s the memories and the people who live in a house that make it a home.
My photography props have now been unpacked and neatly placed in cubbies we purchased this past weekend. There is not as much closet space here, so I needed to put the many cups and vases I own on some sort of shelf, and the cubbies are very pretty and accessible.
My old window used in so many of my photos is a thing of the past, so tonight I tried a few new windows in the kitchen. Mostly everything here is white and pale gray, perfect for photography. The light was good, but it will take a while to get used to the light, windows and new style I may need to create as I move forward.
I look forward to creating new images, in a new home and sharing my new vision with you. Thanks for stopping by . . .

Yes Debra, you house will feel like home before you know it – thank you for your pretty shots of tulips, the 2nd (shadow) photo is my favorite of the three. Have a great day!!
Thank you Cecelia. π
Beautiful
We need an outing soon Maybe a glass of wine on your cozy porch. π
Thanks Donna. Yes absolutely. π
Very beautiful Debra! I’m excited to see the changes in your backgrounds with your new home! I’m very interested in the dark image … different from your normal style. π
Thank you Carolyn. I took that image without really planning or thinking about it. The tulips looked perfect and it was beginning to get dark outside. To my surprise I loved it and yes, it is so different than my usual photo.
I love it when I take an image without much thought and it turns out great!
Sometimes not thinking it over and over can be to our benefit. Thanks so much!!
Congratulations on your new home! I know how it feels to move, so many memories are left there.
Canβt wait to see you π
Love the pictures!
Thank you Linda. We canβt wait to see you and Pete too!!
I was wondering about how you were doing in your new home. Nice to see you’re adjusting and realizing what you do and don’t need in your new place. I’m happy you’re back to taking photos and finding what works with new windows and lighting. Lovely as always – you haven’t lost your touch!
Aw thanks so much! That means a lot to me. I was doubting myself after being away for so long and not having my usual spot but Iβm trying to adapt and look at things differently. Life is all about adjusting to what it brings your way. β€οΈ
You’re welcome. Yes, and you’ve had your share of changes this year, giving yourself time to adjust will only make the next phases that much better!
So very true! Itβs been a challenging year but things are looking up π
That’s great news!
